Authentic Model Tender Oar IVORY and HONEY 71.7" Decorative Wood Model This Decorative Boat Oar is brand new and is handcrafted. The manufacturer is Authentic Models (please see below). It measures overall 71.75" inches in length x 5.25" inches wide (at the blade) and 3.25" in diameter. This tender oar is modeled from an authentic yacht's rowing boat oar and is an exact replica. The oar is constructed of solid wood, is built in 2 sections and attaches at the middle with a brass collar. The oar's blade tip and handle are painted a French antiqued ivory white. There is also a black oar lock collar included.Oars make a large statement as nautical home décor pieces, which work in many environments. Place them in your beach house, cottage or on your patio deck. Frame a doorway or place above the kitchen worktop to hang pots and pans. Perhaps even use one for a coveted trophy! An oar is an implement used for water-borne propulsion. Oars have a flat blade at one end. The oarsmen grasp the oar at the other end. What distinguishes oars from paddles is that paddles are held by the paddler, and are not connected with the vessel. Oars generally are connected to the vessel by means of rowlocks or tholes which transmit the applied force to the boat.Oarsmen generally face the stern of the vessel, reach as far as they can towards the stern, and insert the blade of their oar in the water. As they lean back, towards the vessel's bow, the blade of their oars sweeps the water towards the stern, providing forward thrust. For thousands of years, vessels were powered either by sails, or the mechanical work of oarsmen, or paddlers. Some ancient vessels were propelled by either oars or sail, depending on the speed and direction of the wind. This beautiful wooden oar is sure to become a treasured family heirloom. It would make an interesting conversational addition to your nautical or rustic décor.Size: 71.75" Length x 5.25" inches wide (at the blade) x 3.25" in diameterManufacturer: Authentic Models Material: Solid wood & brass Color: French antiqued ivory white & walnut
